Neutron Star Masses from Arecibo Timing Observations of Five Pulsar–White Dwarf Binary Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
We have detected relativistic and/or kinematic post-Keplerian parameters of no fewer than five pulsar–white dwarf binary systems in long-term timing observations at Arecibo. We discuss the resulting constraints on pulsar and companion masses. The general trend is that the pulsar mass measurements are compatible with the canonical value of 1.35M⊙, but in most cases somewhat higher masses are preferred.

A Massive White Dwarf Companion to the Eccentric Binary Pulsar System PSR B2303+46
Pulsars in close, eccentric binary systems are usually assumed to have another neutron star as a companion. These double neutron star binaries have proven to be the best laboratories for experimental General Relativity and are the most secure candidates for gravitational wave interferometers. We present deep B, V , and R images of the field containing the eccentric binary pulsar system PSR B230...

متن کاملPSR J1753–2240: A mildly recycled pulsar in an eccentric binary system
We report the discovery of PSR J1753−2240 in the Parkes Multibeam Pulsar Survey database. This 95-ms pulsar is in an eccentric binary system with a 13.6-day orbital period. Period derivative measurements imply a characteristic age in excess of 1 Gyr, suggesting that the pulsar has undergone an episode of accretion-induced spin-up. The eccentricity and spin period are indicative of the companion...
متن کاملPSR J1829+2456: a relativistic binary pulsar
We report the discovery of a new binary pulsar, PSR J1829+2456, found during a mid-latitude drift-scan survey with the Arecibo telescope. Our initial timing observations show the 41-ms pulsar to be in a 28-hr, slightly eccentric, binary orbit. The advance of periastron ω̇ = 0.28 ± 0.01 deg yr is derived from our timing observations spanning 200 days. Assuming that the advance of periastron is pu...
